On Eric Bischoff's Catchphrase "Controversy Creates Cash"

During his time as owner of WCW (World Championship Wrestling), Eric Bischoff once said this iconic statement that was later associated with him:

Though he originally pertains to the stiff competition between WCW and the WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation / WWF), in my perspective, this statement applies more to show business.

If you are a person who mostly follows entertainment news, you are already aware for sure about the numerous intrigues and scandals involving your favorite stars, which, most of the time, vehemently deny them. And for sure, you have noticed that the more allegations thrown at them, not only they get more popular to the common people, but also they usually get the highly important projects for their respective networks they are working with.

Which makes me think, do these intrigues were clearly made up by the press simply for the intention of hyping up the artist in preparation for a much bigger break? Alternatively, if these intrigues were real, were the press either taking advantage of the situation to make him/her look better, or using these circumstances around him/her to gain the compassion of the fans?

If any case, I absolutely do not know. What I am sure though is depending on the situation, the people always decide for themselves whether they feel compassion for or demonize the artist. If the people are avid fans of the artist, they will surely side with him/her; otherwise they bash him/her with negative comments. What these “haters” do not know all the time is the more negativity they throw at the artist, they simply provide him/her one step closer to greatness, while they themselves had nothing changed… still the same common pathetic losers.

In any case, the decision is still up to the powers-that-be in the entertainment industry whether they push the artist forward to superstardom, or bury him/her to utter obscurity. Depending on the artist’s nature, despite the negativity, it will always be their work ethic, discipline, and performance that counts in order for them to step up the entertainment ladder and become a full-fledged superstar.
While we admit that controversy will never leave the life of an artist, we know for sure that without these, they will never be famous.

I, the Pooch, have spoken.
