My Thoughts On The Shutdown - Part I

I don't think the shutdown will be the end for ABS-CBN... it will be their EVOLUTION.

If in case ABS-CBN is unable to secure a new franchise, I am sure they will revolutionize our viewing and listening experience. As we all know, there is an abundance of OTT (over-the-top) platforms such as Netflix. I realized that a huge opportunity awaits ABS-CBN, and that they must take advatage of it to make it more accessible to the people.

How?

BY MAKING THE USAGE OF THEIR IWANT APP FREE FROM DATA, JUST LIKE DEPED COMMONS.

All of ABS-CBN-owned channels must be placed in iWant, including DZMM, MOR and all of their regional stations. There is no need for TV Plus, all you need is your cellphone or any gadget that requires a SIM card. This will certainly reach out anywhere across the country, even in the most isolated places.

But how can they do it if ABS-CBN Mobile has been discontinued? Well, they can certainly bring it back. In addition, if my memory serves me right, ABS-CBN still has shares in Bayan Communications. Not only they will be able to bring back ABS-CBN Mobile, they can also invest with Bayantel further and become the third telco that will break the duopoly of PLDT/Smart and Globe. Their transmitters across the country can be converted into cell sites to make iWant's reception clear wherever you are.

Realize this, even if they lose free-to-air televisoon, ABS-CBN WILL INTRODUCE FREE INTERNET TV AND FREE INTERNET RADIO. When a door closes, another window opens. I bet more Filipinos will avail of this service than Netflix.

Yes, the company is ruled by a liberal oligarch. Yes, their news is biased and their journalism is selective. Yes, most of their talents are liberals and leftists. Nevertheless, we still patronize ABS-CBN because it has been an institution for over 65 years (which also includes the BBC days during the Marcos era). I know they have a lot of setbacks, and I believe a complete overhaul within their corporation must be done, from the management, to news, to entertainment, down to the lowest level. But then again, if in case they are unable to renew their franchise, and/or the Supreme Court does not grant a TRO, everything written above will surely happen..

To any ABS-CBN supporter who reads this, take it as good news. To anyone who favors the shutdown, please be aware that I am both a Marcos and Duterte supporter.
