Reasons Why Filipinos Are Most Emotional

Gallup released their latest poll which concluded that the Philippines is the most emotional nation while Singapore is the most numb.

I was not surprised when I found out about the polls. Because I know why we're called such.

This article will give you an idea on why we are called the most emotional society. These are just my opinion, and I know some of you will not agree with me.

Too much Teleserye???

Most of us love soap operas and reality shows so much we have them in the morning, afternoon and evening. Probably too much watching these is one of the reasons why we tend to be emotional. We are one of the advocates of heavy drama, intense action (though not as violent as other countries), suspense and horror. These scenes affects our emotions; in Tagalog, "dinidibdib natin."

That's why I do not watch TV series, reality shows and movies anymore because I am too emotional.

How? Example. When I watched the horror film "The Hitcher," I cried so bad when the character of Jennifer Jason Leigh was killed by ripping her body in half by the main antagonist, but laughed like Satan when I saw the guy killed in the end. That was the start of my habit of laughing maniacally when I see evil people die in a beautiful, brutal fashion. It became my voyeur.

Now I watch documentaries instead.

Too much EGO???

I think our emotions are triggered by our ego. Admit it, sometimes there are people who are really one-sided; they always argue about things, justfying their opinion as the right one; in Tagalog, "makitid ang utak." I know some people here in Angeles City who are like that. But I won't state their names because they know who I am.

Because of their ego, some people tend to be overreacting, judgmental, prejudicial, and, most of all, having the crab mentality. No wonder why we sometimes tend to bully certain persons who are involved in famous scandals that trended these past few days.

Too much news???

We also tend to be emotional when we watch news. Particularly bad news. One good example are the heinous crimes happening right now. Many beautiful girls are getting killed with guns and knives. Many children are getting killed by fire. Do you have that feeling of being a vigilante? That you want to kill some bad guy for what he'd done? I have that feeling, if you ask me.

Another good example is politics. We can't stand the fact that there is too much corruption and greed in our country today. That's why there are more protests happening in the streets. No offense to militant groups, but sometimes they look like they are not contented with the state of this country, though it is their right to express their feelings because they are also right, somehow. I too am very emotional because of politics, sometimes.

Bullies that are afraid to be bullied

Here's the irony of the Filipinos. We tend to make fun of foreign people with our jokes [such as the PSSI (Pawis sa Singit ng Sundalong Iraqi) running gag in Pugad Baboy], but when they made fun of us, we get mad. You feel that?

There are many cases of which we are mad at certain people when they criticize Filipinos. Notable examples were: Claire Danes saying our country is plenty of cockroaches; Teri Hatcher insulting Filipino doctors in Desperate Housewives; Korean actress Lee Da-Hae insulting our Filipino English (that's Chinese English, actually); and more recently, Lucy Liu and her "skin may 'look a little Filipino'" remark on the Late Show.

We're lucky that Chris Hemsworth is not affected by our Thor memes, or Kim Jong-un when we made fun of his NoKor rocket as being made by CD-R King. Or how about the scrapped cover of Bela Padilla on FHM where she posed along with beautiful African women... and you thought that was also racist.

I am not sure how other races comprehend to such situations but in my opinion, we Filipinos tend to express more hate on racism that any other race in this world.
